These tooth colored ceramic fillings are the finest dental restorations
available. Research done to date indicates that these bonded ceramic
restorations have the same wear characteristics as tooth enamel,
will strengthen a tooth to the point where it becomes stronger than
it was before it was ever filled, and they do not cause sensitivity
after being placed.
Silver/Mercury amalgam fillings weaken teeth and
cause them to fracture, which results in the need to grind the
tooth down and cover it with a cap or crown. This in many cases
results in post placement sensitivity and in some cases the need
for root canal treatment, not to mention the destruction of healthy
tooth structure.
CEREC® is not a composite resin filling which
is tooth colored, but does not have the wear characteristics the
CEREC® restoration displays. Composite resin fillings are
better than silver/mercury amalgams since they are bonded to the
tooth and will help prevent fractures, but they wear when placed
on chewing surfaces and will need to be repaired over time.
CEREC® technology eliminates the need to grind
teeth down for crowns in most cases since the part of the tooth
that is missing can be easily replaced with ceramic that is bonded
and made part of the existing tooth giving the tooth the strength
of a crown without sacrificing unnecessarily healthy tooth structure.
CEREC® technology helps preserve the "walls of the temple"
and keep it strong and sound. All this with no sensitivity and
no ugly metal showing black or gold. This is truly 21st century
dentistry today!
